Paris Fashion Week just became “so hot right now” thanks to guest appearances by iconic male models Derek Zoolander and Hansel, of Zoolander fame.
The two (fictional) really, really ridiculously good-looking men have appeared in the Valentino Fashion Show at Paris Fashion Week on March 10, wearing items from the designer’s Autumn/Winter collection. Before the close of the show, Zoolander (played by Ben Stiller) and Hansel (Owen Wilson) walked the runway to Don’t You Want Me by the Human League, earning them applause, cheers and a standing ovation at the end of the show.
Their appearance was followed by a release date announcement for Zoolander 2, currently shooting in Rome. The film will open in theatres in the U.S. on February 12, 2016.
Stiller and Wilson will also be joined by former cast member Will Ferrel, reprising his role as the evil Mugatu. According to IMDb, Christine Taylor will also be back as Matilda, while Penelope Cruz is a newcomer to the cast of the film, directed by Justin Theroux.
IMDb says of the film’s plot: “Derek and Hansel are modelling again when an opposing company attempts to take them out from the business.”
Italian website Bad Taste has also reported Ben Stiller’s comments about the sequel at Cannes Film festival:
“The New Adventures of Derek and Hansel will be set in Europe, and in particular the city of Rome will have a big part in the film. But I can’t say more,” Stiller said.
Rome’s mayor Ignazio Marino confirmed the filming location in a statement to Bad Taste, saying they would be filming for 12 weeks “ in and outside Rome’s Cinecittà studios”.
“Ben Stiller will shoot his next film in our city this spring, with a cast of American and Italian [actors],” he says.
The mayor also shared photos of him and Stiller on Facebook, saying the decision to shoot in Rome was helping put the city back in the spotlight as a top international filming destination.
The latest Zoolander news and runway appearance has taken the internet by storm, with #Zoolander2 trending on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. With around 11 months before the movie is released, there’s a pretty good chance of more stunts like this one will add fuel to the hype.
