Actor Daniel Radcliffe has decided to end a 10-year connection with Australian property by listing his luxury Toorak apartment for sale.

Best known for his starring role in the Harry Potter movies, Daniel Radcliffe has built up a solid reputation as an actor in film, as well as stage shows, with high praise for his work in productions of Equus, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and The Cripple of Inishmaan. Over the years, he’s spent time in Australia for work as well as holidays.

Daniel Radcliffe…being rad.

Radcliffe’s parents initially bought the property – located at 98B St Georges Road, Toorak – when he was just 16 and based in Melbourne for the shoot of Australian film The December Boys. Ownership was transferred to the Harry Potter star when he turned 18, and Radcliffe kept it as a home base for himself when visiting Australia for work and play.

While some of the stories circulating about the sale say that Radcliffe is “ apparently active in Melbourne’s night life scene”, an interview in the Herald Sun back in 2007 suggest otherwise:

“I lie in bed and do nothing and watch cricket…then despair about the cricket,” he says, adding that he’d generally “just read and watch TV”. While things could have changed over the years, pictures of the property certainly show it’s a nice place for that kind of thing.

Radcliffe’s interview also reveals that he has stayed at the apartment for work, as well as taking holidays with his family. He even jokes that his mother would basically go straight from the airport to the popular Chapel Street nearby.

The Radcliffe family actually came across the property through connections his father had from school days.

“…Someone my dad went to drama school with lives here,” Radcliffe recalls in the Herald Sun interview.

“We just got on with the place really, really well and so we just love it here.”

Speculations suggest the Radcliffe’s would have paid $1.9 million for 98B St Georges Road back in 2005. It’s now expected to sell for around $2.5 to $2.8 million – the latter being the December quarter median house price for Toorak listings from selling agent Marshall White.

The real estate agent’s listing says the three-bedroom apartment provides “prestige and luxury on a tree-lined boulevard”, with only one other apartment in the complex and a Victorian Apartment Project of the Year award to its name.

“Elevated from the surrounds, occupying the entire top level and bathed in northern light, this boutique apartment enjoys extensive City views across the Yarra River,” it says.

“Accessed by a lift, an expansive living space features timber floors and floor-to-ceiling windows, flowing through to an equally spacious kitchen/dining space with Miele appliances and huge patio doors to a sensational rooftop terrace.”

Marshall White’s Marcus Chiminello and Nicole French are managing the sale, with expressions of interest closing on March 10.

While the sale of this Toorak property will end Daniel Radcliffe’s connection to Australian property, outside of the UK he’s also thought to own real estate in the West Village of Lower Manhattan in New York City.
